Jimmy Lloyd braves the Canadian Cold for Openweight Gold

By Hutch Henries

Hey guys it’s Hutch Henries here for this one and I’ve decided to write a quick blog because I’ve been thinking about Jimmy Lloyd versus Jody Threat.

Truth be told, we’ve got an event happening right now as I’m writing this… in Niagara, as part of the Topés & Tequila tour we do with Tequila Expo every year. I should probably be writing about that or maybe about the Lucha Network or all the great content we’ve been live streaming through IWTV this year.

But instead, I want to talk about Jimmy coming up to Canada to take on the Wild Child Jody Threat for the Openweight Championship… a title that’s close to my heart. Demand Lucha has two singles titles and both of the are from previously existing Toronto leagues. The top prize of the Premier Championship is from Squared Circle Live and the training academy that supported it. They had some of the best shows in Toronto’s history with company champions like the Young Bucks, AEW’s the Blade & current Impact World Champion Josh Alexander.

Jody’s title though, the Openweight Championship, is from the company I helped spearhead many years ago,… Victory Commonwealth Wrestling. This is probably going to be Jody’s biggest test and her first intergender match since taking the title and making it “Open” to everyone, no matter size, gender or in-ring style.

There are plenty of reasons to get tickets for Plancha Tendencies on February 16th, whether it’s Manders or Space Monkey, whether Joey Janela taking on Gringo Loco, seeing the Medicos, or getting an autograph from the legendary Jimmy Hart… but for me, it’s going to be Jody Threat defending the Openweight Title against the vicious and unpredictable Jimmy Lloyd.

I recently went to IWTV, you can find all of our content there, and checked out the Wrestival Weekend consisting of half a dozen or more shows. Jody wrestled three times that I saw and Jimmy wrestled too. If they bumped into each other it would have been fun because they both know this match is coming. If you’re a fan of Demand Lucha you should definitely get out to this show. I think this match is going to be super impressive… I think the sleeper match of the night might be Manders versus Aeroboy, but both of the championship matches consisting of Janela versus Gringo Loco and Jimmy Lloyd versus JodiyThreat are going to be worth the price of admission times 10.
